Itinerary 3: Transport Heritage
There's so much to See and Do in our fabulous city by the sea, but there's still lots more once you have finished exploring the wonderful 'riviera' coastline. From Heritage to Art we don't want you to miss out!

North East Land, Sea and Air Museum (NELSAM) Entrance fee applicable:
10.00am. Free parking. Expect to spend 2 hours at the museum.

Ryhope Engines Museum (Free):
1:00pm: Opens 11.00am - 4.00pm each day when in steam (Click here for individual dates). The museum is open as a static exhibit every Sunday afternoon 14.00 - 17.00 from Easter until the end of December.
Additional opportunities to visit are available in the run up to each event when they are stoking the boilers in preparation for steaming. Please contact the museum prior to travelling to ensure that staff will be on site for your arrival time. Expect to spend an hour at the museum.
Approximate onward journey to Bowes railway: 25 minutes by car, 1 hour 10 minutes by bus.
Bowes Railway (Free with suggested donation):
2:30pm: Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Free parking. Take a guided tour of the railway site at 10.00am & 3.00pm or take a self-guided tour. See mining displays and blacksmithing demonstrations as well as the fabulous engines on steaming days. There is a variety of events programme throughout the year.
