Public Services- The following public services are located in City Hall:
- Sunderland City Council Customer Services (Ground floor)
- Gentoo Housing Office (Ground floor)
- DWP Medical Assessment Centre (Mezzanine)
- DWP Job Centre (Floor 1)
- Coroners Court (Floor 1)
- Registrars (Floor 1)
Café -Brew & Bake is located on the lower ground floor.
Digital Zone - public computers and telephones are located in the foyer area on the ground floor.
Baby Change - There are baby change facilities in the disabled toilet in Brew & Bake on the lower ground floor as well as the medical room on the ground floor.
Breast Feeding - Booth seating is available in Brew & Bake and mothers can request to use a privacy room on floor 2. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
First Aid - A first Aid Box and Deliberator are located in Security Room and there is a medical room located on the ground floor.
Bicycle Parking - There are covered visitor bicycle parking facilities located outside the north and south entrances to the building.
Dropping off/deliveries - There is a layby drop off area to the north of City Hall on Plater Way.
Note this is a one way street which can only be accessed from the living stone road junction on St Mary's boulevard. Max stay in the drop off area is 15 mins.
Smoking - There is no smoking allowed in or around the building.
Accessibility
City Hall is an accessible building with clear signage to indicate the wheelchair accessible routes to entrances.
Access is enhanced by the use of power assisted doors operated by push buttons at North and South side for public access, multiple passenger lifts which have audible scanning control to assist people with visual impairments. The user can select the floor they require when it is announced.
There is also an accessible changing room with a hoist located to the West of the foyer area.
At reception, you'll find Sunderland City Council employees who floor-walk, they can assist users of the building.
Induction loops have been installed in the podiums at reception. There are various safe refuge points with communications on fire escape stairways.
Two passenger lifts can be used as Fire Evacuation Lifts. Additionally, the public toilet in Brew and Bake café is also power assisted to support visitors with additional mobility needs.
