Game, Set, Relax! Wimbledon Hits Keel Square
Experience Wimbledon for free in the heart of Sunderland this summer as Expo Sunderland Pavilion brings the world's most iconic tennis tournament to Keel Square.
From Monday 30th June to Sunday 13th July, selected matches from Wimbledon 2025 will be streamed live on the Expo Sunderland Pavilion big screen, inviting residents, visitors and sports fans to gather and soak up the summer atmosphere in the city centre.
Located in Keel Square, the Expo Sunderland Pavilion has quickly become a striking hub for culture, creativity and innovation in the city, featuring one of the UK's largest semi-transparent LED screens - a dramatic 20m by 5m backdrop for community events and experiences.
The versatile space has already played host to events including May's VE Day 80th anniversary and Make Music Day earlier this month, when young creatives took over the Pavilion with live DJ sets, interactive workshops and city-wide soundscapes.
This summer, the Pavilion continues its celebration of community spirit with the Wimbledon screenings - part of a growing programme designed to educate, inspire and connect people through sport, culture and technology.
Match times and daily schedules are expected to run between 1.30pm and 6pm daily, creating the perfect afternoon stop-off for city centre shoppers, workers, families and sports fans alike.
Councillor Beth Jones, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Tourism at Sunderland City Council, said: "We're delighted to bring Wimbledon to the Expo Sunderland Pavilion this summer. It's a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to experience one of the world's greatest sporting events in the heart of the city. With big matches, a brilliant atmosphere and the chance to come together as a community, it promises to be a summer highlight for Sunderland."
The screenings are delivered as part of Expo Sunderland's ongoing programme of community events, proudly supported by headline partner, the University of Sunderland. They follow recent successes like Make Music Day and are set to form part of a wider Summer of Sport programme soon to be announced.
