Houghton Feast
The Magic of Houghton Feast is back this October
Held every October in Houghton-le-Spring, Houghton Feast is a 10-day festival with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It began as a dedication festival to the parish church of St Michael & All Angels for Michaelmas, and today it continues to celebrate local culture and tradition through a vibrant programme of events for all ages.
This year's theme, "The Magic of Houghton," will run from Friday 3 October to Sunday 12 October 2025. Highlights include:
Opening Ceremony - Live performances & illuminations switch-on (The Broadway, Oct 3, 7pm)Fun Fair - Thrill rides & family favourites (Rectory Field, Oct 3-11)
Art Club Exhibition - Local artists' work (Oct 3, 4 & 6)
Magic of Old Houghton - Outdoor A.I. photo exhibition (Rectory Park, Oct 4 & 7)
Roasting of the Ox - Traditional ox sandwiches, supporting local food banks (Old Rectory, Oct 4, from 1pm)
Carnival Parade - Colourful community procession (Oct 4, 2pm)
Fireworks Music Spectacular - Choreographed display (Durham Road, Oct 6, 7:30pm)
Classic Car Show - Vintage vehicles on display (Kepier Academy, Oct 4, after parade)
Houghton Feast welcome thousands of visitors from Sunderland, County Durham, and the wider North East for a community event steeped in local history and tradition.
