Walk to Fitness

Walt to Fitness

Did you know that taking part in activity and exercise has lots of benefits for your health? It can help you to manage or lose weight, improve your mental health and stress levels, help you sleep better and can even help to improve long-term health conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.  It can even help you to meet new people and feel less lonely.

From Tuesday 18 February 2025, a FREE weekly Walk to Fitness session will take place in Barley Mow Park, Hendon.

Activities will include walking, light stretching and some simple exercises aiming to build up muscle strength, improve your flexibility and movement. The session will be adapted to meet your needs, whatever your ability.

The session will help you to move more and get a little fitter, so why not come along and join in?

Where are the sessions being held?

Barley Mow Park, Ryhope Road, SR2 7ST - meet at the tennis courts.

When are the sessions taking place?

Every Tuesday morning at 10am from 18th February 2025.

How long will they last?

Sessions will last for 1 hour, but you can come and do 5, 10 or 30 minutes, it's up to you!

Who are the sessions for?

The sessions are suitable for anyone, but they are aimed at people who haven't been active for a while, or who are looking to start their fitness journey.

What do I need to wear?

The sessions will be outside, so wear whatever you have that's suitable for exercise and you feel comfortable in, but footwear should be flat and suitable for walking.

Should I bring anything?

We'd recommend bringing a full water bottle.

We want to keep the group small so places for the sessions are limited.  If you would like to come along, please register here.

If you need help with completing the registration, you can either speak to Chris from Active Sunderland or drop into Back On The Map in Hendon who are happy to help.

You can also contact Chris if you have any questions about the sessions or just want to find out if this is for you.
