Mowbray Community Garden

Mowbray Park is one of the oldest municipal Parks in the North East of England and the first public park to open in Sunderland. In 1994 the Park was added to English Heritage's Register of Parks and Gardens (Grade II) in recognition of its Special Historic Interest at a national level.

Sunderland City Council have been awarded £180,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to work with the local community and create an inclusive Community Garden space inside Mowbray Park.  

This exciting project will transform the existing space and create an interactive, inclusive, and fully accessible community garden, with raised beds, seating, and paving. The Garden is being developed in partnership with local people and groups who we have worked closely with to decide upon its design and use. Specialist design, support and training is provided by our delivery partner 'Outdoor and Sustainability Education Specialist (OASES), who are currently leading consultation sessions. 

OASES work with schools and communities promoting and supporting sustainable living through training, events and activities. This includes climate change learning along with wellbeing programmes such as forest bathing, outdoor living activities, forest schools and food growing.
