The Fire Station

The Fire Station theatre forms part of the wider Fire Station cultural complex, which sits in a restored 1907-08 fire station building in the heart of Sunderland City Centre.

The original station building lay unused for 22 years after its closure in 1992, before being transformed into the wonderful cultural hub you see today, partly thanks to a £2.5m Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

The theatre hosts a broad range of cultural programming, including:

  • Live music (from local artists to well‑known touring acts)
  • Comedy
  • Contemporary dance
  • Theatre productions
  • Community and participatory arts activities
