A festival of sustainability is coming to Sunderland!

The FREE family friendly event is taking place across Sunderland from Monday 29 September to Saturday 4 October.

This city-wide sustainability festival invites residents to explore, learn, and get inspired to take meaningful climate action—helping Sunderland move closer to its ambition of becoming a carbon neutral city by 2040.

Locations and times:

  • 10am-3pm- Houghton Library (29th September- 1st October)
  • 10am-3pm- Washington Library (29th September- 1st October)
  • 10am-3pm- Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens & Mowbray Park Community Garden (4th October)
  • 10am-3pm- Expo Pavilion at Keel Square (4th October)

We've got a jam- packed schedule of sustainable fun for all the family.  

Here's a taster of what's on and where: 

Houghton Library & Washington Library 

  • Plantopia - indoor and outdoor plants and homewares 

  • RSPB - learn about local wildlife 

  • Forbes Furnishings - upcycled goods and craft activity 

  • Digital Smart Cities - learn about getting connected and the Digital Smart Cities Project 

  • Special screenings of OCEAN by David Attenborough 

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens & Mowbray Community Garden: 

  • Helpful tips on how to live and travel more sustainably, while earning money to spend across Sunderland  

  • Design your own goody bag and take on the Ecofest challenge- perfect for families  

  • Bring your bike and drop in for a free bike health check with Dr.Bike 

  • Go bug hunting and composting in the 'Just Let Your Soul Grow Community Garden' 

  • Plus much, much more!

Pavillion, Keel Square: 

  • Shop a great range of hand-crafted, sustainable home ware, fashion, jewellery and furniture from a range of eco-conscious local suppliers. 

  • One for the green fingered among you... shop a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants and accessories... good for the soul and the environment.  

Plus lots of arts and crafts activities using recycled materials, as well as information on local growing, cycling and walking, recycling and waste and energy efficiency support!
