Down at the Farm

Down at the Farm is one of Sunderland's most popular family days out, and has been open since the 18th century.

This family owned farm allows you and the kids to get up close to farm animals, meet cows, pigs, donkeys and bleating sheep as well as hear the hoots of snowy owls. Kids can pet and stroke animals in the farmyard, or have plenty of fun on the farms play areas.

There are  seasonal activities all year round too, such as helping to feed the spring lambs, or meeting Santa and his reindeer at Christmas!

There's also more than just the animals to entertain the whole family; why not take a bumpy barrel train ride? Or jump on bouncy pillows and slide down the huge inflatable slides... You can even learn how to ride quad bikes!

Down at the Farm is a great place to learn about animals and get out of the usual routine. There's a small collection of non-native species you can meet such as meerkats, racoons and reptiles as well as conservation areas for wild birds.

How To Get There

Down at the Farm is open between February half-term to October each year, with the exception of special seasonal events.

It is located on Stoneygate Lane in Houghton Le Spring and is marked clearly with signage.

The nearest bus routes are 20, 20A and X20 which run between Sunderland and Durham. These stop at Stoney Gate which is just a short walk from Down on the Farm. 

Car parking is free with disabled bays at the front of the car park.
