Working together
Climate change represents a significant challenge for our generation. Over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history and the trend is accelerating.
Partners across the city signed up to a Sunderland Low Carbon Framework [2.76MB] in December 2020 that will drive down emissions and seek to make the city carbon neutral by 2040 and to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
The Framework [2.76MB] will be supplemented by individual Action Plans developed and delivered by partners across the city. The Council adopted its initial Action Plan in January 2021 and the actions were revised and updated in July 2022. Read the updated version here. (PDF, 1 MB)
Tackling climate change is too great a task for any one body or organisation. Our citywide approach - involving partners, businesses, residents, visitors, voluntary community and social enterprise sector and importantly our young people - will be really important.
